Named and exported rather than derived via
ErrorReturnedBy<typeof this.validate>: private members are emitted without
their types, so that form degrades to unknown in the .d.ts and — with
skipLibCheck masking it at the producer — surfaces only as
result.error is of type unknown in consumers.
